(Port) Wine of the month August 2017: Ramos Pinto Vintage Port 1963
Why are Ramos Pinto Vintage Ports from the 1960s so rare? The quality is great and the amount of bottles must have been sufficient. I have seen a Ramos Pinto 1945 or one from the 1930s much more often. Transparent medium red colour which darkens quite a bit after the contact to oxygen. Very spicy on the Nose, Malt and tobacco flavours, complex and fresh. The palate reveals intense malty notes, mint, chocolate. Deep and balanced. Long aftertaste. A very good 1963, which should be consumed within the next 20 years. 18/20
